Illustration system for an e-commerce storefront Rakuten specialty yarn shop ・Illustration & banner design (via agency) Overview Poplar sells yarn, and yarn photographs as balls of string — accurate, but invisible in a Rakuten search results page. I built a cast of original characters (animals in hand-knitted hats) so every campaign had a small story instead of a product on a background, then composited the illustrations with product photography across the whole storefront. The point wasn't decoration. It was recognition: a customer scrolling past twelve shops needed to know, in half a second, that these banners belonged to the same store. Deliverables 6 hero banners — 940 × 350, fixed Rakuten spec 11 campaign banners × 3 sizes (large / medium / thumbnail) JPG + WebP for every asset Visual rules documented so later campaigns stay on-system Result Shop-wide sales rose approximately 60% after relaunch (per manager's report). The illustration and banner system was one part of a broader redesign that also covered navigation, LP structure, and footer.
